Abstract

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), as cited by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2018), hypertension is a silent killer, as its symptoms vary widely among individuals and often resemble those of other diseases. Muara Enim Public Health Center (Puskesmas Muara Enim) is the only public health center located in Muara Enim District. Out of a total population of 72,930 residents in Muara Enim City, there are individuals aged over 18 years suffering from hypertension within the service area of Puskesmas Muara Enim. In 2024, the number of hypertension patient visits recorded at Puskesmas Muara Enim reached 524 cases. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and elderly individuals’ knowledge about hypertension and their adherence to routine control visits at Puskesmas Muara Enim. This study employed an analytical research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all elderly patients with hypertension who received health services at Puskesmas Muara Enim in 2024, based on medical records, totaling 200 individuals. Sampling was conducted using an accidental sampling technique, resulting in a sample size of 100 respondents. The results of the study indicate a significant relationship between family support regarding hypertension and adherence to routine control visits at Puskesmas Muara Enim in 2025, with a statistical value of 6.326 and a p-value of 0.042. In addition, there is a significant relationship between elderly individuals’ knowledge about hypertension and adherence to routine control visits at Puskesmas Muara Enim in 2025, with a statistical value of 16.777 and a p-value of 0.002. The findings of this study are expected to enhance insight and scientific knowledge regarding the relationship between family support and elderly individuals’ knowledge about hypertension in relation to adherence to routine control visits. These findings may contribute to enriching the literature in the field of nursing. This is in line with the vision of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKes) at Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu to continuously develop research that is relevant to the health sector.
