Privacy Statement

Transparent processing, restricted access, appropriate retention, security, and data-subject requests

This statement covers personal data collected through the JPM website, OJS accounts, submissions, peer review, production, correspondence, payments, integrity processes, events, and technical logs. It does not govern research-participant data inside a manuscript or dataset, which is addressed by Ethical Oversight and Research Data policies.

Data We May Process

• Identity and profile data: name, title, affiliation, country, ORCID, scholarly identifiers, biography, and role.
• Contact and account data: email address, telephone/WhatsApp number, username, authentication records, preferences, and correspondence.
• Editorial data: manuscripts, title pages, declarations, reviews, decisions, revisions, proofs, complaints, allegations, evidence, and audit trails.
• Financial data: invoice details, payer identity, transaction reference, proof of payment, waiver/refund documents, and accounting records; JPM should not request full card credentials or unnecessary financial data.
• Technical data: IP address, browser/device information, access time, error logs, security events, cookies, and analytics information where enabled.

Purposes and Access

• Administer accounts, submissions, double-anonymized peer review, decisions, production, publication, DOI and metadata services, indexing, preservation, communication, and author support.
• Detect abuse, protect systems, document consent and conflicts, investigate supported integrity concerns, comply with accounting and legal duties, and defend legitimate claims.
• Restrict access according to role and need. Reviewers receive anonymized material where the journal's review model requires it; authors do not receive confidential reviewer identity.
• Share only necessary information with authorized editors, reviewers, production or technology providers, DOI and indexing services, preservation networks, payment processors, institutions, professional advisers, or authorities when lawful and appropriately protected.
• Published names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, contributions, conflicts, funding, article metadata, and notices become part of the permanent public scholarly record.

Retention, Transfers, and Security

Published records and essential editorial history are retained to preserve the scholarly record. Unsuccessful-submission, reviewer, integrity, financial, security, and system records are retained only as long as justified by editorial accountability, consent, contract, accounting, limitation periods, security, or law, then securely deleted or anonymized where appropriate. Service providers or scholarly infrastructures may process data outside the user's jurisdiction; JPM uses reasonable contractual, access, and security safeguards appropriate to the transfer.

Reasonable safeguards include role-based access, strong authentication, least-privilege administration, secure connections, protected backups, logging, software updates, incident response, and confidentiality obligations. No internet service can promise absolute security. A suspected personal-data incident is contained, assessed, documented, and notified to affected persons or authorities when required.

Your Choices and Rights

• Request information about personal data processed by JPM and seek correction of inaccurate or incomplete private account information.
• Request lawful restriction, objection, deletion, withdrawal of optional consent, or a copy of data where applicable, subject to identity verification and legal exceptions.
• Unsubscribe from optional communications while continuing to receive service messages necessary for an active submission, review, payment, or integrity case.
• A privacy request cannot require silent alteration of a published article, falsification of an editorial record, removal of a required conflict/retraction notice, or disclosure of another person's confidential data. Appropriate scholarly-record corrections remain available.
