Manuscript Withdrawal

A fair and documented process for ending an unpublished submission

ScopeWithdrawal applies only before an article is published as the Version of Record. Authors may request withdrawal, but the journal must preserve a transparent editorial record and assess any integrity concern.

How to Request Withdrawal

The corresponding author must submit a signed request through OJS or the official contact page, stating the manuscript ID and title, reason, current stage, and confirmation that all authors have been informed and agree. If authors disagree, JPM pauses the request where practicable and seeks institutional or independent clarification.

Handling by Submission Stage

Before external review A complete request is normally processed promptly after identity and co-author agreement are checked.
During peer review or revision The editor records work completed, closes assignments, informs reviewers as appropriate, and checks for duplicate submission, authorship conflict, or another ethical concern.
After acceptance, before publication The request requires documented editorial approval, confirmation of all authors, closure of production and DOI/metadata actions, and resolution of any integrity or payment matter under the relevant policy.
After publication The article cannot be withdrawn. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, retractions, or exceptional removal apply according to the evidence.

Ethical and Administrative Principles

  • Withdrawal to conceal simultaneous submission, undisclosed prior publication, fabricated data, authorship abuse, or another suspected violation does not end the journal's integrity assessment.
  • Authors must not submit the same manuscript elsewhere until JPM confirms in writing that the withdrawal has been completed.
  • JPM records the request, author confirmations, editorial stage, reason, integrity assessment, communications, and closure date. The withdrawn manuscript remains confidential and is not published.
  • JPM does not impose automatic withdrawal penalties, five-year institutional blacklists, collective punishment, or payment as a condition for necessary research-integrity action.
  • Any APC already paid is considered only under the APC Waiver and Refund Policy. Withdrawal is not itself a separate author charge.
OutcomeThe journal communicates written confirmation that the request is approved, pending further information or integrity assessment, or cannot be treated as withdrawal because publication has already occurred. A material procedural dispute may follow the Appeals and Complaints Policy.
